CrossHeirs Sportsman's Fellowship

"You have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, 'Abba! Father!' The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ." — Romans 8:15-17

CrossHeirs Sportsman's Fellowship was founded in 2003 as a Christian evangelistic outreach to men who like to hike, hunt and fish with the goal of helping them discover and/or restore their relationship with the Creator. The aim of CrossHeirs is to provide opportunities for sportsmen to discover first hand that you don't have to surrender your masculinity in order to follow Christ.

Reaching the hearts of men in an environment in which they’re comfortable is what CrossHeirs Sportsman's Fellowship is all about.

  • father/son retreats
  • pastors retreats or getaways
  • men’s retreats
  • corporate retreats
  • or just an iron sharpening getaway
  • for the guys.

2010-2011 Duck & Quail Hunts

You’ve just eaten a hearty meal with some of your closest friends, family members or mentors. You now find yourself sitting around a blazing camp house fire, a productive afternoon shooting quail in the tall grass still fresh on your mind. While you greatly anticipate tomorrow morning’s duck hunt in the green Arkansas timber there’s no place you’d rather be than right here, right now.

Reaching the hearts of men in an environment in which they’re comfortable is what CrossHeirs Sportsman’s Fellowship is all about.

  • father/son retreats
  • pastors retreats or getaways
  • men’s retreats
  • or just an iron sharpening getaway for the guys.

Format and Cost

Our mission is to provide the perfect setting to get you in the frame of mind to hear from the Creator. It’s our hope to inspire, encourage and motivate you to become the men God created you to be.

We will cater our hunts to your schedule but a typical 2-day hunt works like this: After your arrival we will depart for an afternoon quail hunt or rice field duck hunt followed by a home cooked meal and devotion time. The following morning we will depart for a duck hunt in either the world famous Bayou Meto flooded green timber or in a local rice or bean field. For extended stays we can set up hunts in a variety of locations or spend an afternoon at the sporting clay range. Each day will end with time for a devotion and introspection around a roaring fire!

The cost for our CrossHeirs hunts varies. Since we are a non-profit ministry many of the hunts provided to us by clubs and lodges across the state are donated. Some are not. But our set prices are as follows:

  • $150 non-refundable deposit, (deducted from total cost)
  • $50 per day per person...this includes meals.
  • Cost of duck stamps and hunting license: See www.agfc.com
  • Make checks payable to:
    Beautiful Feet Ministry
    3 Trent Jones Cove
    Sherwood, AR 72120

Location

CrossHeirs Retreat Center is located just south of Little Rock in Wrightsville, AR. Our lodge is set amidst nearly 1000 acres of reclaimed wetlands which now includes ponds, wild grasses, millet fields and willows.

Season Dates

The duck seasons are set by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. For the most up to date information on season dates and other rules and requirements log on to www.agfc.com

Rocky Video from STEP Retreat

Rocky and I had a great time at the first ever STEP ministry outdoor retreat at Bud Finley's farm in Sardis. This was a day long event where kids from North Little Rock's inner city had the chance to head out to the country and shoot a bow and arrow and a bb gun, do a little fishing, paddle a canoe, cook their own hot dogs, go on a mountain bike run and finally...learn to blow a duck call. That was my job! They did great!!

Thanks to Delta Waterfowl each of the kids got to keep their duck calls.

But the best part for many of them was throwing bumpers to Rocky and watching him retrieve. I stole liberally from my friend Hank Hough and Kingdom Dog ministry and used Rocky to illustrate such truths that you have to listen only to the Master's voice as well as know your own name and purpose.

Matt on Wildman Wilson’s TV Show

In early December CrossHeirs was featured in an episode of Talkin' Outdoors with my friend, Steve "Wildman" Wilson and his photographer Trey Reid.  It was our first youth duck hunt of 2009.  Our guests were Colin Trice and his dad, Bruce along with Grant Guthrie and his dad, Eric.  We didn't shoot any ducks but we did have some to shoot at.  But the show also provided us a forum to talk about CrossHeirs and our mission.

The Church at Gander Mountain

By the time this newsletter reaches you we will have already held our first ever service inside the North Little Rock Gander Mountain Outdoor Retailer.

New CrossHeirs director Wyatt Johnson had the vision for this a long time ago and through his hard work and determination and God’s perfect timing we’re witnessing another great opportunity to share the gospel through Outdoor ministry.

Here’s how it will work: The service will begin with a meet and greet beginning at 10 am. Wyatt will lead an introduction into the Gospel of John until around 10:45 and the last 15 minutes will be open for discussion. The service was initially created for employees of Gander Mtn. but will be open to anyone who happens to be walking through the store on Sunday morning.

Too many men are skipping church but feel right at home in a place like Gander Mountain. We’re just trolling for souls, folks! It’s Wyatt’s hope that these types of services can expanded into other Outdoor retailers. If you are interested in starting a CrossHeirs chapter at your church please give us a call or shoot us an email.
